Eligibility Requirements for International Medical Students:

Applying medical students:

1. Must be a medical student
2. Must have completed at least one year of medical school
3. Must be in good standing at their medical school
4. Must rotate before they graduate from medical school

Application information for International Medical Students:

It is required that visitors first complete ONE YEAR in their medical schoolsbefore participating in any training program. Certain programs may have prerequisites. Please check each individual listing in the available programs for details.

All Visiting Student rotations are scheduled through the International Students Exchange Office, Faculty of Medicine, Alexandria University. Programs assignments for visiting students are made on competitive base and a priority on available clerkships is assigned on a space-available basis, and registration is restricted to Two months in advance of the rotation start date.

Training duration: Rotations are 4 weeks in length and registration is restricted to a maximum of twelve weeks. Use one application if you would like to rotate for one 4- week block (4 different rotation choices may be listed, with up to 3 dates). If you would like to rotate three times (three 4-week rotations), 3 application forms must be used and an original documentation must be submitted, for example, 3 application forms, 1 CV, 1 letter of motivation, etc.

Tuition: International students who are accepted to rotate must pay a tuition fee of $ 200.00 per English speaking program and $ 300 per French speaking program. Bank transfer payable to Alexandria Faculty of Medicine, C/O International Students Exchange Office is acceptable. Scanned bank transfer receipt is required after acceptance notification in order to confirm your enrollement.

Required documents:

Together with the filled application form you need to submit the following documents:

1. Curriculum Vitae: please submit your most current CV. Your email address should be listed clearly on your CV.
2. Recent digital photography
3. Motivation Letter: please submit a motivation letter describing your interest in your programs of elective and your career goals.
4. Letter of Recommendation: One general letter of recommendation from a faculty member who has observed you is required. The letter must comment on your clinical abilities and performance, and must be in English for English Speaking Students or French for French speaking students.  The letter should include a faculty member’s signature on official stationary.
5. An official transcript: please submit a current, original, sealed transcript from your medical school’s Registrar’s office.

Deadlines: Visiting students are required to submit a complete application two months before the start date of the selected rotations. Applications or documentation submitted after the deadlines will not be processed.

Acceptance: In order to be fully accepted to our program, you must receive an acceptance email from the International Students Exchange Office. An accepted student will receive an email notification only. Registration is restricted to a maximum of twelve weeks.

Health Insurance: All visiting students must be covered by health insurance during the time they are rotating. A proof of health insurance must be submitted to the International Students Exchange Office upon arrival and registration to the office.

Changes in electives: Once a student has been scheduled to rotate, no change in elective choice or rotation block will be allowed.
